Manual Chapter: TCP Profile Tuning
Manual Chapter
Table of Contents   |   << Previous Chapter

The data center to data center (DC-DC) replication use case typically uses a small number of data connections. Through ongoing testing, F5 Networks has collected data you may find useful for TCP tuning.
Table A-1 provides the TCP profile settings F5 Networks recommends for a typical WAN Optimization Module deployment on specified BIG-IP platforms and at various link speeds. The recommended configuration provides the optimum single connection throughput for a given platform.
To adjust these settings, on the Main tab of the navigation pane, expand Local Traffic and go to Profiles >> Protocol >> TCP. Modify the pre-defined profiles wom-tcp-wan-optimized (WAN Profile) and wom-tcp-lan-optimized (LAN Profile), as indicated. For more information about modifying profiles, refer to the Configuration Guide for BIG-IP® Local Traffic ManagerTM. Alternatively, you can use the CLI.
SB = Send Buffer setting
RW = Receive Window setting
PBH = Proxy Buffer High setting
TBD = Research in progress. Check the F5 Networks Technical Support web site, http://support.f5.com for updates to the documentation.

For DC-DC replication on high speed links, such as OC12, 1Gbps, and OC192, select Memory for the Mode setting on the WAN Optimization Symmetric Deduplication screen (see Configuring symmetric data deduplication).
For lower speed links, select Disk for the Mode setting on the WAN Optimization Symmetric Deduplication screen (see Configuring symmetric data deduplication).
For latency sensitive applications (SRDF/S), non-compressible data (JPG image replication), or small data sizes (SQL replication):
Disable compression, which means only the Null setting is enabled for Compression Settings on the associated iSession profile (see Customizing the iSession profile).
