About the HTTP Class profile

An application that runs on a virtual server accelerates all HTTP traffic. You can, however, use an HTTP Class profile to classify types of HTTP traffic for the BIG-IP® WebAccelerator™ module to accelerate, by specifying hosts, paths, headers, and cookies.

Important: Although you can use the HTTP Class profile to classify the types of HTTP traffic to accelerate, the HTTP Class profile overrides the Web Acceleration profile on the virtual server. Acceleration of HTTP traffic with the WebAccelerator module should primarily be configured through a Web Acceleration profile, instead of the HTTP Class profile.

Accelerating traffic for WebAccelerator module applications with the HTTP Class profile

Ensure that the configuration includes a Web Acceleration profile configured with an enabled BIG-IP® WebAccelerator™ module application.
The HTTP class profile uses the HTTP header, cookie, host, and path to classify and accelerate traffic for applications that are running on a virtual server.
Important: If you configure an HTTP Class profile to accelerate traffic with the WebAccelerator module, the HTTP Class profile overrides settings configured on the virtual server for an WebAccelerator module application in the Web Acceleration profile.
  1. On the Main tab, click Local Traffic > Profiles > Protocol > HTTP Class. The HTTP Class profile list screen opens.
  2. Click Create. The New HTTP Class Profile screen opens.
  3. In the Name field, type a unique name for the profile.
  4. From the Parent Profile list, select a profile from which the new profile inherits properties.
  5. Select the Custom check box for Configuration. The settings become available.
  6. Optional: From the Hosts list, select and configure one of the following options, as applicable:
    • Match All
    • Match Only
  7. Optional: From the URI Paths list, select and configure one of the following options, as applicable:
    • Match All
    • Match Only
  8. Optional: From the Headers list, select and configure one of the following options, as applicable:
    • Match All
    • Match Only
  9. Optional: From the Cookies list, select and configure one of the following options, as applicable:

    • None
    • Pool
    • Redirect to
  12. From the WebAccelerator module list, select Accelerate.
Note: Configuring the HTTP Class profile to accelerate traffic with the WebAccelerator module system overrides Web Acceleration profile settings on the virtual server.
  13. Click Finished.
An HTTP Class profile enables the WebAccelerator module, as configured to run on a virtual server.

Bypassing traffic for WebAccelerator module applications with the HTTP Class profile

Ensure that the configuration includes a Web Acceleration profile configured with an enabled WebAccelerator module application.
The HTTP class profile can bypass the WebAccelerator module for applications that are running on a virtual server.
Important: If you configure an HTTP Class profile to bypass the WebAccelerator module, the HTTP Class profile overrides settings configured on the virtual server for an WebAccelerator module application in the Web Acceleration profile.

    • None
    • Pool
    • Redirect to
  12. In the WebAccelerator module list, select Bypass.
Note: Configuring the HTTP Class profile to bypass the WebAccelerator module system overrides Web Acceleration profile settings on the virtual server.
  13. Click Finished.
An HTTP Class profile enables the BIG-IP® WebAccelerator™ module, as configured to run on a virtual server.
