The FirePass Standalone VPN Client

Overview of the standalone VPN client for Windows

The FirePass controller, version 5.0 includes a standalone VPN client for Windows 2000 and Windows XP computers. This Network Access client provides secure remote access to your corporate network without a browser session.

Note

The FirePass standalone VPN client will only connect to a version 5.0 FirePass controller.

Standalone VPN functionality

Using the standalone client, remote users can access your corporate intranet without using a Web browser. The client gives users access to these FirePass controller features:

  • Network Access

  • Application Access

  • Terminal Services

As FirePass controller administrator, you control the Network Access, Application Access, and Terminal Services options that remote users have access to. Users see the same favorites they would see if they connected to the FirePass controller using a Web browser. You define those favorites in the Administrative Console. For more information on defining favorites, see the online help pages.

Installing the standalone VPN client

The FirePass standalone VPN client must be preinstalled on remote computers. Download the Network Access client installation package from the FirePass Administrative Console, and install the client on each remote computer.

To download the standalone VPN client
  1. Connect to the FirePass controller using a Web browser.

  2. To log in, type your user name in the Username box, your password in the Password box, and click Go.

  3. On the navigation pane, click Device Management, expand Maintenance, and click Client Downloads.
    The Client Downloads screen displays.

  4. Scroll down the screen and click the indicated text, Click here to download MSI setup package, to start the download.

  5. Follow the prompts to download and save the F5 VPN Clients Setup.msi file.

After downloading the MSI package, you can install it on client computers, or copy the setup package to a shared location (like a network directory) so that individual users can install the FirePass standalone VPN client on their computers.
